Slave. Christian. Brother in Christ. Onesimus stole from his master and ran away, then had an encounter with the imprisoned Paul…and found Jesus. This is Paul’s plea to Philemon, the slave’s master, to give freedom to his new brother in Christ. Written from prison, Paul writes of freedom, knowing that while he is a prisoner of Rome, his true situation is that he is Captivated by Christ.

Starting a new verse-by-verse study in the Book of Colossians. Paul is writing to a church he has never met that is being threatened by false doctrine. He is writing to praise them for their faith and love, and to encourage them in their hope for eternal life.
